Dry Season in Canggu (May - September) & Shoulder Months

The dry season (primarily May to September) is generally considered the best time to visit Canggu. You can expect sunny days and consistent ocean swells on the west coast that make for ideal surfing conditions. While we call it the dry season, the humidity is still around 70-80%—but this is noticeably more comfortable than the wet season! April and October serve as shoulder seasons where the weather transitions; you'll likely experience more sun than rain, but occasional downpours, especially early April and late October, are to be expected.

  • Temperature: Pleasantly warm, ranging from 26°C to 31°C.
  • Atmosphere: More comfortable humidity, clear skies.
  • Highlights: Incredible sunsets, lively beach clubs, great surfing conditions on the west coast.

Wet Season in Canggu (November - March)

During the wet season, you will experience higher humidity (often over 85%) and more frequent tropical downpours. While some rain showers are short-lived, especially during late afternoon or overnight, months like December through February can occasionally see rain for hours or even a full day. Despite this, the island becomes beautifully lush and green. It's also an excellent time to find lower accommodation rates and enjoy fewer crowds at popular cafes and yoga studios.

  • Temperature: Warmer and very humid, typically 27°C to 32°C.
  • Atmosphere: High humidity, tropical, and very green. Frequent rain and thunderstorms.
  • Highlights: Cheaper villa rentals, less crowded cafes, lush rice terraces.

Best Time to Visit for Surfing

If you're a surfer, the dry season (May to September) offers the most reliable offshore winds and consistent swells on the west coast, making Canggu spots like Batu Bolong and Echo Beach prime destinations. Conversely, during the wet season, the winds shift, making the east coast of Bali (like Sanur and Nusa Dua) the better choice for ideal surfing conditions. Beginner surfers can often find fun, manageable waves during the shoulder seasons in Canggu. Always check the weather radar above before heading out to the waves!
